Style Recipe: Studded loafers

The studded trend is proving to be pretty enduring, and one of my favourite ways to wear studs is on shoes. Topshop had the perfect pair but they sold out before I could get them. So I was extremely happy to find a DIY version on the divine kid. Check out how she made hers here.

A guide to dip-dying

If you have noticed that the blog hasn't been as well looked after as usual lately, you are right and I'm sorry! I have a lot of deadlines in the upcoming week, so bear with me whilst I finish these!

Although I never carry out any of my plans, I keep dreaming about all the DIY projects I want to do. Lots of them include dip-dying, so when I came across this guide to dip-dying on A Pair And A Spare, I bookmarked it straight away. The overview includes tips such as:
- For an ombre dye, dip the piece in different concentrations of the dye.
- Add salt to your dye mixture to set the dye
- The colour will look much lighter once the garment is dry
It also includes lots of ideas of way to dip-dye your clothes. Check out all the advice here.

Style Recipe: Brooch Necklace

I have been obsessing over bib-style necklaces with clustered embellishments for some time now, but couldn't find any cheap ones. Then I came across this tutorial at P.S. - I made this. It is pure genius! The idea is simple: you find some cheap brooches and cluster them on some fabric (sew them in so that they don't weigh the fabric down) et voila! You have a beautiful necklace!

Style recipe: DIY glitter shoes

Although I've been posting lots of DIY inspirations, I am not at all crafty, and have hardly ever attempted a DIY. But a few weeks ago, a friend and I decided to start with the basics: glittering a pair of shoes. We bought lots of pots of glitter, the strongest glue we could find, and I snapped up some cool multi-coloured faux gem stones at a pound shop! Armed with some old shoes, we set about glittering! We mixed the glitters to get a multi-coloured mix, then mixed half of that with the glue. We used paintbrushes to spread the glitter mixture over the shoes and then poured the loose glitters on top. One tip I can give you is to do all this with old bowls and brushes, something I hadn't thought of, which meant I will now have to replace these! After this I stuck on the gemstones, et voila! The perfect New Years Eve shoes were mine!

Jen Kao nails

I love these nails from the Jen Kao Spring 2012 collection! They flow from black to bright blue.. Ombre at it's best! Although these were nail extenstions by CND, the backstage make-up artist recommended a DIY version by applying one colour to the bottom of the nail and another colour to the top, so that they overlap slightly, and then, whilst they're still wet, applying a generous layer of clear top coat on top, to make the nail polishes run into eachother. If anyone tries it, let me know if it works!
